Nestled in the heart of Amsterdam, SEOUL HOUSE is a little slice of South Korea that will transport you straight to the bustling streets of Seoul. As soon as you step inside, you’re hit with the tantalizing aromas of sizzling bulgogi and the comforting warmth of a steaming bowl of bibimbap. Trust me, your taste buds are in for a treat!
I stumbled upon this gem while wandering around Amsterdam, feeling a bit homesick for the flavors of Asia. When I spotted the vibrant sign of SEOUL HOUSE, it was love at first bite. The authentic Korean dishes they serve up here are seriously next-level.
The restaurant itself is cozy and inviting, with a modern twist on traditional Korean decor. You’ll find sleek wooden tables paired with colorful cushions, and walls adorned with eye-catching Korean artwork. It’s the perfect spot for a casual dinner with friends or a romantic date night if you’re looking to impress your significant other with your worldly culinary tastes.
But what really sets SEOUL HOUSE apart is the attention to detail in every dish. The chefs here arenât messing around â they’re passionate about bringing the true flavors of Korea to Amsterdam. From the perfectly grilled meats to the expertly crafted banchan (side dishes), every bite is a testament to their skill and dedication.
Alright, let’s dive into what makes SEOUL HOUSE a must-visit spot in Amsterdam:
1. Authentic Korean Cuisine: SEOUL HOUSE serves up the real deal, with dishes that’ll make you feel like you’ve been teleported to a family-run restaurant in Seoul.
2. Extensive Menu: Whether you’re a Korean food newbie or a seasoned pro, there’s something for everyone here. From classic dishes like bibimbap and kimchi jjigae to lesser-known delicacies, you’ll be spoilt for choice.
3. BBQ Experience: One of the highlights of SEOUL HOUSE is their Korean BBQ option. You get to grill your own meat right at the table â it’s interactive, fun, and downright delicious. Just be careful not to get too caught up in conversation and forget about your sizzling bulgogi!
4. Vegetarian and Vegan Options: Donât worry, plant-based pals! SEOUL HOUSE has got you covered with a range of veggie-friendly dishes that donât compromise on flavor.
5. Soju and Korean Beers: What’s a Korean meal without some soju or a crisp Korean beer? SEOUL HOUSE offers a selection of authentic Korean beverages to complement your meal.
6. Friendly Staff: The staff here are knowledgeable and always happy to guide you through the menu. They’re patient with newbies (trust me, I bombarded them with questions on my first visit) and can offer great recommendations.
7. Cozy Atmosphere: The restaurant strikes the perfect balance between modern and traditional, creating a warm and inviting ambiance that’ll make you want to linger long after your meal is finished.
8. Takeaway Option: If you’re in a rush or just fancy enjoying some Korean goodness in the comfort of your own home, SEOUL HOUSE offers a takeaway service.
Now, let’s talk timing. When’s the best time to hit up SEOUL HOUSE? Well, that depends on what kind of experience you’re after.
If you’re looking for a quieter, more intimate dining experience, I’d recommend visiting for an early dinner, around 5: 30 PM when they first open. You’ll beat the dinner rush and have the place practically to yourself. It’s perfect for those nights when you want to have a long, leisurely meal and really savor each dish without feeling rushed.
On the flip side, if you’re after a more lively atmosphere, aim for around 7: 30 PM to 8: 30 PM. This is when SEOUL HOUSE really comes alive. The air is filled with the sizzle of Korean BBQ, the clinking of soju glasses, and the excited chatter of diners. It’s a great time to soak in the full SEOUL HOUSE experience.
Weekends, as you might expect, tend to be busier. If you’re planning a visit on a Friday or Saturday night, I’d strongly recommend making a reservation. There’s nothing worse than showing up with your taste buds all primed for some Korean deliciousness, only to find there’s an hour-long wait!
As for seasons, SEOUL HOUSE is a year-round destination. In the colder months, there’s nothing quite like warming up with a steaming bowl of sundubu-jjigae (soft tofu stew). And in summer? Well, a cold bottle of Cass beer and some Korean fried chicken on their small outdoor seating area is pretty hard to beat.
One insider tip: if you’re a fan of seasonal specials, keep an eye out during Korean holidays. SEOUL HOUSE sometimes offers special menu items to celebrate these occasions. During Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving) last year, they had some amazing traditional rice cakes that Iâm still dreaming about!
Getting to SEOUL HOUSE is easy, thanks to Amsterdam’s excellent public transport system. But before I dive into the details of tram lines and bus routes, let me paint you a picture.
Picture yourself strolling along one of Amsterdam’s charming canals, the late afternoon sun glinting off the water. You turn down a side street, following the irresistible aroma of grilling meat and fragrant spices. And there it is â SEOUL HOUSE, your gateway to Korean culinary delights.
Sounds tempting, right? Well, here’s how to make that little daydream a reality:
By Tram:
The easiest way to reach SEOUL HOUSE is by tram. Take tram 4 or 14 and hop off at the Frederikplein stop. From there, it’s just a short 2-minute walk to the restaurant. As you exit the tram, you’ll see a charming little park. Walk past it, and you’ll find SEOUL HOUSE waiting for you on the corner.
By Metro:
If you prefer the metro, take line 52 to the Vijzelgracht station. From there, it’s about a 10-minute walk to SEOUL HOUSE. The walk takes you through some lovely Amsterdam neighborhoods, so it’s a great opportunity to soak in some local atmosphere before your meal.
By Bus:
Bus lines 65 and 758 also stop near SEOUL HOUSE. Get off at the Stadhouderskade stop, and you’ll be just a 5-minute walk away.
By Bike:
This is Amsterdam, after all, so of course, you can bike there! If you’re renting a bike (and I highly recommend it â it’s the most fun way to explore the city), SEOUL HOUSE is easily reachable. Just make sure you’ve got a good bike lock, as parking can be a bit tricky in this area.
By Car:
While I wouldnât recommend driving in central Amsterdam (trust me, those narrow streets and wayward cyclists can be a nightmare), if you do come by car, there’s a Q-Park parking garage about a 5-minute walk from the restaurant.
Walking:
If you’re staying in central Amsterdam, walking to SEOUL HOUSE can be a delightful experience. It’s about a 20-minute walk from Dam Square, taking you through some of Amsterdam’s most picturesque areas. Just follow your map app, and enjoy the sights along the way!
One last tip: whichever mode of transport you choose, I’d suggest arriving a little early and taking a stroll around the neighborhood. The area around SEOUL HOUSE is full of beautiful architecture and hidden gems. Who knows? You might even work up an extra appetite for all that delicious Korean food waiting for you!
