The arithmetic nobody does: the 1 kg House Blend at €28.70 works out at €28.70 per kilo, while the Seasonal Microlot at €25.40 for 450 g is €56.44 per kilo. You are paying roughly double for the single-origin lot, which is normal for microlot coffee but worth knowing before you pick a bag off the shelf on impulse.
How do you get to Wakuli Vijzelgracht?
Take metro 52 to Vijzelgracht station. The station is on this street, and the walk from either exit to number 37 is under two minutes. Vijzelgracht station opened on 22 July 2018 as part of the Noord/Zuidlijn, was designed by Benthem Crouwel, and has a single island platform roughly 125 m long with entrances beside Maison Descartes and just north of the Weteringcircuit.
Tram numbers are deliberately not listed here. Amsterdam’s tram network has been renumbered repeatedly since 2018, and any number printed on a travel page ages badly. The locator is the system that actually drives the store finder and carries a separate record for every branch, so it is the better bet. The help centre article appears to date from the period when there genuinely was one Wakuli bar. If you are planning around a 17:00 closing time at Linnaeusstraat, phone ahead rather than trusting either page.
What is Wakuli as a company?
Wakuli is a Dutch direct-trade coffee company that started as a subscription service and then opened bars. It is registered as Wakulimarket B.V. under KVK number 69148295, buys from farmer groups without the usual chain of traders, roasts in its own facility at Watergang north of Amsterdam, and sells the result online and over its own counters. The bars came later than the subscription, which is why the account portal at my.wakuli.com has nothing to do with the cafes and why “my wakuli” searches land on the wrong kind of page.
That model is the reason the beans on the shelf change. A single-origin lot is bought from one group in one season, so the Seasonal Microlot rotates by origin and the Discover Monthly changes every month. Asking which origin is currently in the hopper is a more useful question at the counter than asking for a roast level.
Is Wakuli Vijzelgracht worth stopping for?
It rates 4.4 on Google and 4.0 on Tripadvisor, which puts it in the solid rather than exceptional band for Amsterdam specialty coffee. Two criticisms come up often enough to plan around. Seating is limited, so it works better as a takeaway stop or a short sit than as a laptop morning. And the espresso-based drinks are less consistent than the cold brew: at least one reviewer describes a lukewarm, unfoamed cappuccino. The cold brew draws the most unprompted praise, including from people who call it the best in the city.
Practical read: come for a cold brew and a bag of beans, come early if you want to sit, and pair it with something else on the same street rather than making it the destination. It is a five-minute walk from the Rijksmuseum and sits on the metro line that connects the canal belt to the south of the city.
