Ikigai Amsterdam is a take-away and delivery sushi kitchen at Albert Cuypstraat 62-O in De Pijp. There is no dining room, no terrace and nothing to reserve. You order online or by phone, then collect at the counter or have it delivered. The operator publishes the same hours for all seven days, 15:00 to 21:30, on both its own website and its Uber Eats storefront. Prices sit in the premium band for Amsterdam: a signature roll of eight pieces runs about €16.00 to €19.00 on Uber Eats, two-piece nigiri about €5.50 to €9.50. The kitchen makes its own soy sauce, pickled ginger and wasabi, and the chef-owner is Evert Broer.

Can you eat in at Ikigai Amsterdam?
No. Ikigai has no dining room, no counter seating and no terrace. The business describes itself, in its own words, as “a premium sushi take-away and delivery restaurant located in De Pijp, Amsterdam”, and every ordering channel it uses offers exactly two options: delivery, or pick-up from the counter. Its Instagram and TikTok profiles both describe it as take-out and delivery, and the Uber Eats storefront lists pick-up alongside delivery with no seating category.
This matters because most write-ups of Ikigai, including an earlier version of this page, describe an atmosphere, a decor and a dinner service that do not exist. If you are planning an evening out rather than a meal at home, the section on where to sit down for Japanese food nearby is the useful one.
| What Ikigai does | What Ikigai does not do |
|---|---|
| Delivery across Amsterdam | Seat you at a table |
| Counter pick-up in De Pijp | Take reservations |
| Platters for groups and events | Serve a set dinner menu on site |
| Sell sake and beer to take away | Run a bar or terrace |
| Prepare each order fresh to order | Offer a walk-in wait for a table |
What are Ikigai Amsterdam’s opening hours?
Published hours disagree, and the disagreement is worth knowing before you walk over. The operator’s own website and its Uber Eats storefront both give 15:00 to 21:30 for all seven days. Older third-party listings give a 12:30 opening and a Tuesday closure. Every source, however, agrees on the block between 15:00 and 21:30 from Wednesday to Monday, so that window is the safe one on any day of the week.
| Source | Published hours | Closed day |
|---|---|---|
| sushi-ikigai.nl (operator, checked 29 Aug 2026) | 15:00 to 21:30 | None, open daily |
| Uber Eats storefront (checked 29 Aug 2026) | 15:00 to 21:30 | None listed |

Where exactly is Ikigai Amsterdam, and how do you get there?
Albert Cuypstraat 62-O, postcode 1072 CV, at the quiet eastern end of the street rather than in the middle of the market. The unit letter matters when you are standing on the pavement: the operator, its Uber Eats storefront and its own contact page all write the address as 62-O, and at least one map listing has it recorded at a different house number entirely.
The address sits on the same street as the Albert Cuyp Market but past the stalls, which is why the shopfront is easy to walk by. If you are coming across the city rather than from inside De Pijp, work out your route with our guide to getting around Amsterdam, and read the OVpay guide before you tap in, because contactless fares and the daily cap changed in 2026. Sarphatipark is a five-minute walk away and is the obvious place to eat a collected order outdoors: see Sarphatipark and our roundup of Amsterdam picnic locations. For the neighbourhood itself, start with the De Pijp guide.
We are deliberately not naming a tram number here. Albert Cuypstraat is long, the nearest useful stop depends on which end of it you are aiming for, and the eastern end where number 62 sits is close enough to Sarphatipark and the Amstel side of De Pijp that walking from a stop you already know is usually simpler than a single-stop ride.
What is on the menu, and what does it cost?
The menu is built in eight sections: signature rolls of eight pieces, maki rolls of six, nigiri, sashimi, sides and sauces, desserts, sake and wine, and beers. There are no hot mains, no ramen and no grill. Vegetarian options are on the list. The prices below are the ones Uber Eats displayed on 29 August 2026; third-party marketplaces frequently price above a restaurant’s own ordering channel, so treat these as an upper bound and check Ikigai’s own site if the difference matters to you.
| Item | Size | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Californian Roll | 8 pieces | €19.00 |
| Spicy Tuna Roll | 8 pieces | €17.00 |
| Ikigai Roll | 8 pieces | €17.00 |
| Ebi Roll | 8 pieces | €16.00 |
| Philadelphia Roll | 8 pieces | €16.00 |
| Japanese Salmon Ceviche | portion | €17.00 |
| Nigiri toro, wagyu, scallops, Dutch unagi | 2 pieces | €9.50 |
| Nigiri hamachi | 2 pieces | €7.50 |
| Nigiri tuna, torched salmon | 2 pieces | €6.50 |
| Nigiri salmon | 2 pieces | €5.50 |
| Maki roll toro | 6 pieces | €9.50 |
| Maki roll tuna | 6 pieces | €7.50 |
| Maki roll salmon | 6 pieces | €6.50 |
| Sashimi salmon | 3 pieces | €9.50 |
| Wakame salad | portion | €7.50 |
| Soy beans | portion | €6.50 |
The arithmetic most write-ups skip: two signature rolls and a pair of nigiri comes to roughly €38 to €42 before delivery, which puts a two-person order in the same range as a mid-priced sit-down meal. Ordering nigiri by the pair rather than by the roll is the cheaper way to try the expensive fish.
Which items do customers actually rate highest?
The torched salmon nigiri and the maki roll salmon carry the highest satisfaction scores of the featured items, at 98 per cent each, and the hamachi nigiri and salmon ceviche score 100 per cent on smaller samples. The lowest score in the featured set belongs to the item most often recommended as a splurge.
| Item | Satisfaction | Ratings |
|---|---|---|
| Nigiri hamachi | 100% | 33 |
| Japanese Salmon Ceviche | 100% | 9 |
| Nigiri salmon torched | 98% | 74 |
| Maki roll salmon | 98% | 76 |
| Nigiri tuna | 97% | 49 |
| Maki roll tuna | 97% | 36 |
| Ebi Roll | 96% | 131 |
| Philadelphia Roll | 96% | 91 |
| Maki roll toro | 96% | 52 |
| Nigiri toro | 95% | 66 |
| Ikigai Roll | 94% | 55 |
| Spicy Tuna Roll | 91% | 135 |
| Californian Roll | 87% | 57 |
| Nigiri wagyu torched | 83% | 42 |
Two things fall out of that table. The Spicy Tuna Roll is the most ordered item and the third-lowest rated, which is the usual signature of a dish people order by habit. And the torched wagyu nigiri, at €9.50 for two pieces, is the weakest-rated item on the featured list at 83 per cent, so the standard advice to spend up on the wagyu is not supported by what customers report.
Where should you place the order?
Ikigai runs its own ordering site and also appears on Uber Eats and Thuisbezorgd.nl. The operator links to its own system from the “Take Away & Delivery” button on every page of its website, which is the channel it controls and prices directly.
| Channel | Run by | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Ikigai’s own ordering site | The restaurant | Linked from sushi-ikigai.nl; the operator calls it the official ordering website |
| Uber Eats | Third party | Full menu with prices; pick-up option carries a fee; minimum order value applies |
| Thuisbezorgd.nl | Third party | Full menu, listed under Sushi Ikigai |
| Phone | The restaurant | +31 20 370 35 61 |
What does Ikigai make in-house?
The kitchen makes four things most sushi counters buy in: the soy sauce, the pickled ginger, the wasabi and the rice seasoning. These are the operator’s own descriptions rather than independently tested claims, and they are worth reading as such, but they are unusually specific for a take-away.
- Soy sauce made to a house recipe with kombu, mirin, sake and lime.
- Ginger cleaned, cut and cooked in-house, then marinated for a minimum of seven days in kombu vinegar.
- Real wasabi rhizome rather than the horseradish-and-mustard powder used almost everywhere. Ikigai claims to be the only sushi take-away in the Netherlands using it, which is a marketing claim we could not independently verify, but the use of real wasabi itself is stated plainly and is testable at the table.
- Japanese imported rice, washed, cooked, seasoned and cooled as a separate process the kitchen has documented publicly.
- Fish sourced from Fuentes and Balfego bluefin tuna among other suppliers, both named by the operator.
Who is the chef behind Ikigai Amsterdam?
Evert Broer, who has worked with sushi for eighteen years and ran kitchens in Tulum and Ibiza before opening in Amsterdam. In his own account on the restaurant’s Our Story page, he started as an apprentice, travelled and cooked internationally, and came back to Amsterdam intending to raise the ceiling on what take-away sushi in the city could be. The name is the point: he describes sushi as his ikigai.
What does the word “ikigai” mean?
Ikigai, written in Japanese as a compound of the verb “to live” and a word for worth or value, translates roughly as “reason for being” or “purpose in life”. The version popularised in English frames it as the intersection of four things: what you love, what you are good at, what the world needs, and what you can be paid for. The restaurant uses the second reading explicitly on its own Our Story page.
Which other businesses called Ikigai get confused with this one?
At least four separate businesses in the Netherlands trade under the Ikigai name, and searches for “Ikigai Amsterdam” reach two of them. If you have landed here looking for a sit-down Japanese restaurant with a football view, or a life-purpose coaching practice, you want a different address.
| Name | What it is | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Ikigai Amsterdam (this page) | Sushi take-away and delivery | Albert Cuypstraat 62-O, De Pijp |
| Ikigai Sushi & Bites | Sit-down Japanese restaurant | Vlissingen, Zeeland |
| Ikigai Eindhoven | Sushi and Asian fusion with a view over the PSV pitch, takes bookings | Eindhoven |
| Ikigai Amsterdam (coaching) | A life-purpose coaching practice using the same name on Facebook | Not a restaurant |
Where can you sit down for Japanese food nearby instead?
IZAKAYA Asian Kitchen & Bar, at Albert Cuypstraat 2-6 in the Sir Albert Hotel, is the sit-down option at the other end of the same street. It runs Japanese small plates with a South American influence and a cocktail bar, and unlike Ikigai it seats you and takes bookings. Its published hours run to 23:00 Sunday to Wednesday and 23:30 Thursday to Saturday.
One more address on Albert Cuypstraat needs a caveat rather than a recommendation. Ikura Sushi Bar at number 65 appears on some listings with current hours and on at least one Dutch restaurant directory as closed. We could not resolve that conflict, so it is named here only so you know why you may find the shutters down.
Elsewhere in the city, our own place pages cover Sushi ‘n Poke, Yattsu Sushi, VIJFNULVIJF and the Japanese grocery Onigiri You! Japan Market. For a full Japanese sit-down dinner in Oud-West, see Night Kitchen; for Japanese-themed karaoke booths, see Duke of Tokyo; and for a food hall with a dozen counters under one roof, see Foodhallen.
What do the ratings say?
Ikigai holds 4.9 out of 5 across more than a thousand ratings on Uber Eats, which is the largest review sample the business has anywhere. Its Tripadvisor listing exists but carries no reviews, so a search that lands you on Tripadvisor will look as though nobody has an opinion. The recurring themes in the ratings are the rice-to-fish ratio, delivery speed and value for the price band; the restaurant reproduces three named customer quotes on its own homepage saying much the same.
One caution about published star ratings for this business: our own stored record listed a flat 5.0, which no public source supports. The 4.9 figure above is the one to use.
Quick answers about Ikigai Amsterdam
Can I book a table at Ikigai Amsterdam?
No. There are no tables to book. Ikigai is a take-away and delivery kitchen, so the only two options are collection at the counter or delivery to an address.
What time does Ikigai Amsterdam open?
The operator publishes 15:00 to 21:30 every day on its own website and on its Uber Eats storefront. Older listings give 12:30 with a Tuesday closure. The window every source agrees on is 15:00 to 21:30, Wednesday to Monday.
How much is a roll at Ikigai Amsterdam?
Signature rolls of eight pieces were listed at €16.00 to €19.00 on Uber Eats in August 2026. Six-piece maki rolls ran €6.50 to €9.50 and two-piece nigiri €5.50 to €9.50.
Does Ikigai Amsterdam deliver?
Yes, across Amsterdam, through its own ordering site and through Uber Eats and Thuisbezorgd.nl. Whether your specific address is inside the delivery zone is decided at checkout.
Is there vegetarian sushi on the menu?
Yes. The operator lists vegetarian options alongside nigiri, sashimi, maki, signature rolls and platters.
Where is Ikigai Amsterdam exactly?
Albert Cuypstraat 62-O, 1072 CV Amsterdam, at the quieter end of the street beyond the market stalls. Note the unit letter: several listings drop it, and at least one map service records a different house number.
Can I order sushi platters for a group?
Yes. Platters are made for sharing and are offered for delivery or collection for dinners, office lunches and events. The operator asks you to contact the team directly if you want help choosing or have a special request.
Does Ikigai sell sake?
Yes. There is a sake and wine section on the menu and a beer section, all sold to take away or have delivered rather than poured on site.
Is Ikigai Amsterdam the same as Ikigai Eindhoven or Ikigai Sushi & Bites?
No. Those are separate businesses in Eindhoven and Vlissingen respectively. A coaching practice in Amsterdam also uses the Ikigai name. Only the Albert Cuypstraat address is the De Pijp sushi kitchen.
Sources and what we checked
Last updated 29 August 2026. This page was rewritten from the ground up after a check found the previous version describing a dining room, a terrace and a reservation policy at a business that has none of those things. What changed, and what it was checked against:
- Business model corrected from sit-down restaurant to take-away and delivery, against the operator’s own homepage and its Uber Eats and social profiles.
- Opening hours: four published versions compared and the conflict published rather than resolved silently. The previous text said the kitchen ran until 22:00 most nights, which no source supports.
- Address corrected to include the unit letter, 62-O.
- Prices added for the first time, from the Uber Eats storefront on 29 August 2026, labelled as a third-party channel.
- Removed as unverifiable: an off-menu “Chef’s Special Roll”, a snow crab and tobiko roll, a beetroot-cured salmon dish, a coconut and matcha chocolate dessert, an outdoor summer terrace, and the advice to bring cash.
- Removed as invented: the whole how-to-get-there section, which promised a transport stop “within spitting distance” without naming one, and referred to the OV-chipkaart, retired in favour of OVpay.
- Chef, in-house ingredients and the meaning of ikigai added from the restaurant’s own Our Story page.
- Ikura Sushi Bar’s trading status flagged as unresolved rather than recommended either way.
Prices, hours and menus change. Where this page and the restaurant disagree, the restaurant is right; the phone number above is the fastest way to settle it.
