Eden Hotel Amsterdam now operates as Leonardo Eden Hotel Amsterdam City Center, a 4-star superior hotel at Amstel 144 on the Amstel River, a two-minute walk from Rembrandtplein. It has 230 rooms plus 14 apartments and studios, a buffet breakfast, a lobby bar and a 24-hour mini-market. There is no on-site parking and no meeting space.

If you last looked at this hotel before 2025, several things have changed: the name, the owner, the room count and part of the building. The sections below cover what the hotel offers today and what to check before you book.

Eden Hotel Is Now Leonardo Eden

Leonardo Hotels, part of the Fattal Hotels Group, acquired the Eden Hotels group in August 2024 and began rebranding its properties in 2025. The Amsterdam Eden had grown out of two neighbouring hotels, which were merged into one four-star hotel in 2020.

In December 2025 the building at Amstelstraat 17, on the Rembrandtplein side, was handed over to Leonardo’s NYX brand and now trades separately as NYX Hotel Amsterdam Rembrandt Square. The riverside building at Amstel 144 kept the Eden name as Leonardo Eden Hotel Amsterdam City Center. Older listings, including earlier versions of this page, give a figure of 391 rooms, which appears to cover the combined property before the split.

This matters when you book. Some sites still use their old “Eden Hotel Amsterdam” pages for the NYX hotel, while others list Leonardo Eden under its former apartment name, Eden Studios and Apartments. Check that your confirmation shows Amstel 144 if the riverside Eden is the one you want.

Location on the Amstel

The hotel faces the Amstel between Rembrandtplein and Waterlooplein, in the eastern part of the Centrum district. Rembrandtplein, one of the city’s main nightlife squares, is about two minutes away on foot, so bars and late-night cafés are close. Light sleepers may want to ask for a room away from the street side.

Getting There

• Rembrandtplein tram stop and Waterlooplein metro and tram station are each about a five-minute walk away.
• Amsterdam Centraal is roughly 1.5 km away, about 10 minutes by tram or taxi.
• Schiphol Airport is about 20 km away, a 25- to 30-minute trip by train or taxi.
• The hotel does not rent bikes but gives guests discount vouchers for Black Bikes near Rembrandtplein.

What’s Within Walking Distance

• Royal Theater Carré, just down the Amstel at Amstel 115–125, for musicals, cabaret and circus shows
• Waterlooplein and its flea market, next to the Stopera (city hall and the Dutch National Opera & Ballet)
• Utrechtsestraat, a street of independent shops and cafés such as Café Krom, just south of Rembrandtplein
• Dam Square, the Flower Market, the Anne Frank House, the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, which the hotel puts at 10 to 20 minutes on foot
• The Red Light District (De Wallen), roughly a 10- to 15-minute walk depending on where you’re heading

Rooms and Apartments

Every room has individually controlled air conditioning, a capsule coffee and tea machine, a flat-screen TV with international channels, premium bedding and designer toiletries. A pillow menu is available, and hypoallergenic bedding can be arranged on request. Rooms facing the Amstel are a separate category that you can choose when booking, subject to availability, so pick that option if a river view matters to you.

The 14 apartments and studios are aimed at longer stays and families. Booking sites list options such as a Superior Apartment with Amstel view, and some show the apartment entrance as Amstel 144A. Baby cots cost €12.50 per night for children up to three.

Obsidian, the Tokyo-style listening bar that used to be part of the Eden, was in the basement of the combined hotel. NYX Hotel Amsterdam Rembrandt Square now advertises its own underground venue, so check with that hotel if you want the bar rather than a room.

A Former Chocolate Factory Office

A sugar refinery stood on this site in the 17th century. In 1870 Gerard Bensdorp opened a chocolate and confectionery factory here, and about 20 years later architect Antonie J. Joling designed the company’s head office at Amstel 144–146. The turrets, ornamental stonework, tile panels and stained glass you see from the river belong to that listed building. The lobby, bar and restaurant were fully restyled in 2021, with interiors that nod to the area’s theatre history.

Before You Book

Leonardo Eden suits travellers who want to walk everywhere in the centre, be near Rembrandtplein’s nightlife and possibly wake up to a view of the Amstel. It is a less obvious fit if you need parking, meeting rooms or a quiet residential street.
