Amsterdam has more bridges than Venice — around 1,500 across the canals and the IJ, with 281 of them inside the historic centre alone. Most are working infrastructure, but a handful are landmarks in their own right: the Magere Brug (Skinny Bridge) across the Amstel between Kerkstraat and Nieuwe Kerkstraat, illuminated at night and the city’s most photographed bridge; the Blauwbrug nearby (modelled on the Pont Alexandre III in Paris); the Torensluis spanning Singel (the widest bridge in the centre); and the “Seven Bridges” view from Reguliersgracht where seven arched canal bridges line up in perfect succession.
