Garden
A garden is rare in central Amsterdam — the canal-house lots are deep but narrow, and most outdoor space is paved street or canalside. The venues in this archive have a genuine garden: the hidden hofjes (almshouse courtyards) tucked behind unmarked Jordaan gates, hotel gardens behind 17th-century canal houses, restaurant courtyards used as summer terraces, and museum gardens (the Rijksmuseum’s sculpture garden among them). Some are open to the public year-round, some only as part of a visit to the venue. Each listing notes opening times, whether the garden is part of the experience or a hidden bonus, and what’s blooming in which season.
