Soho House Amsterdam is a private members’ club and 79-bedroom hotel at Spuistraat 210, on the edge of the Singel canal, inside the 1930s Bungehuis. Most of it is members-only, but four parts are not: anyone can book a bedroom, eat at Cecconi’s, book a Cowshed spa treatment, or walk into the ground-floor Soho Home Studio. The club floors, the screening room and the rooftop pool are reserved for members, their guests and hotel guests. Membership starts at €208.33 a month (€116.67 under 27). Can you visit Soho House Amsterdam without a membership?

The practical route for a visitor who wants the rooftop is to book a bedroom rather than apply for membership. Booking a room buys House access for the length of the stay, and non-members are explicitly allowed to book.

Soho House quotes rates per house and per tier and changes them, so treat these as the current starting figures rather than a fixed price list, and check the application page before you budget.

Soho Friends is the tier most often misunderstood. It is a travel and lifestyle programme, not a way into the club: it gives 15% off bedrooms, a 12:00 checkout, a room upgrade on stays of three nights or more subject to availability, 15% off Soho Home, 25% off Cowshed and Soho Skin, reduced spa treatment rates, and 20% off at public restaurants from 16:00 on Sunday and all day Monday to Wednesday. Complimentary screenings are a UK-only benefit.
Full membership is decided by a committee rather than sold on demand. Applications go through sohohouse.com and favour people working in creative fields, and the House is under no obligation to take you.

What are the opening hours?
The House and Cecconi’s keep different hours, and that catches people out. Cecconi’s does not open until midday, so an early breakfast at Soho House Amsterdam is a members-and-hotel-guests affair.

Soho House Amsterdam spreads across seven floors of the Bungehuis, with the pool and terrace on the roof and the public-facing rooms on the ground floor. The confirmed line-up:

Original details survived the conversion: restored timber panelling, stained-glass windows and Art Deco lighting, all protected by the building’s national monument status.
What are the bedrooms like, and can anyone book one?
Anyone can book. There are 79 bedrooms in nine categories, every one of them sleeping two, and the House holds a Michelin Key. Members and Soho Friends book at reduced rates; group bookings go through [email protected]. Rates move by date and are quoted live at booking, so this page gives you the sizes rather than a price that would be wrong by the time you read it.

What is the story of the Bungehuis?
The building has a sharper history than the club’s own telling suggests, and the fight over it is recent enough that plenty of Amsterdammers still have opinions.
- 1932 to 1934: built as the head office of N.V. Bunge’s Handelmaatschappij, a trading firm, for directors Julius Carl Bunge and C. Hirschler. The architects were Gebr. Van Gendt A.L.zn. working with W.J. Klok, not the Amsterdam School names the building is sometimes credited to.
- Materials: limestone and granite facades, chrome and brass, milk glass and tropical hardwoods, the vocabulary of an interwar commercial palace.
- 1971: the University of Amsterdam rented the Bungehuis for its humanities faculty, and later bought it.
- February 2015: the university sold the building to Aedes Real Estate, which planned to lease it to Soho House. Students and academics of De Nieuwe Universiteit occupied it on 13 February in protest at university governance and the sale, held it for eleven days, and were removed by police on 24 February. The occupation moved on to the Maagdenhuis and became one of the largest Dutch student protests in decades.
- 2018: Soho House Amsterdam opened in the restored building.
The Bungehuis is a rijksmonument, a nationally listed monument, which is why the conversion kept the panelling and stained glass rather than stripping the interior back.
Who owns Soho House?
Soho House & Co, founded by Nick Jones, was a New York-listed public company until early 2026. A take-private deal valued at about $2.7 billion closed on 29 January 2026. Ron Burkle’s Yucaipa companies kept control through the acquiring entity, and existing shareholders including Nick Jones, Richard Caring and Goldman Sachs Alternatives rolled over the majority of their shares. Tyler Morse, chief executive of MCR Hotels, joined the board as vice chairman after MCR’s original funding commitment had to be restructured, and Ashton Kutcher put in new equity and took a board seat. Day-to-day, nothing changed at Spuistraat 210, but the ownership answer people find in older articles is now out of date.

Can you eat at Cecconi’s without being a member?
Yes. Cecconi’s occupies the ground floor and takes bookings from the public, seven days a week from 12:00. It is a separate entrance from the club, so you never pass a membership check.
Can non-members book the Cowshed spa?
Yes. Soho House directs members and Soho Friends to book through its app, and non-members to book at cowshed.com. The spa has six treatment rooms, manicure and pedicure stations and a barbershop.
Can you use the rooftop pool if you are not a member?
Only as a hotel guest. Booking a bedroom gives you access to the club spaces, including the rooftop pool and terrace, for the duration of your stay. There is no day pass, and walking in for a swim is not possible.
How many guests can a member bring?
Up to three, per the House’s own listing. Guests are the member’s responsibility and cannot use the House without them.
Is Soho Friends enough to get into the House?
No, and this is the most common misreading of the €140 tier. Soho Friends can only access the Houses while staying in a bedroom. The rest of the year it is a discount and events programme.
What is the Soho Home Studio?
A Soho Home showroom on the ground floor, open to anyone. It carries a full material and swatch library, and has trade and interior design teams available for consultations. It is the one part of the building where you can spend an hour without booking anything.

- Membership prices corrected. The page previously quoted €175 a month for Local House and €385 for Every House. The House publishes membership from €208.33 a month, and €116.67 under 27.
- The Allis corrected. The page said the bar opened to the public only on Friday and Saturday nights. It is a ground-floor bar, lounge and event space that non-members can use, alongside Cecconi’s.
- Room rates removed. A range of €215 to €1,245 was quoted for “singles” and “suites”. Every bedroom sleeps two, none are sold as singles or suites, and rates are dynamic. The nine room types and their exact sizes are listed instead.
- Rooftop pool hours removed. An 08:00 to 20:00 schedule, extended to 22:00 in summer, could not be verified anywhere. The House’s own opening hours are given instead.
- Sunday roast removed. Cecconi’s serves a Sunday brunch buffet from 12:00 to 16:00, which is not the same thing.
- Building history corrected and dated, including the architects, the 1971 university tenancy, the February 2015 sale and the eleven-day occupation.
- Access rules added for every space, because that is the question this page was failing to answer.
