Ah, Lovelee in Amsterdam. It’s one of those spots that’s got a bit of a Jekyll and Hyde personality, if you ask me. On one hand, you’ve got folks raving about its cool vibes and funky atmosphere. On the other, well⦠let’s just say it’s not all sunshine and rainbows.
Located in the heart of Amsterdam’s bustling Leidseplein area, Lovelee is a nightclub that’s been causing quite a stir since it opened its doors. Now, I’ll be honest with you â I havenât personally had the pleasure (or displeasure, depending on who you ask) of visiting this joint. But boy, have I heard some stories!
The club’s interior is apparently quite the sight to behold. Picture this: a mishmash of warehouse chic meets college dorm room, with a splash of neon thrown in for good measure. There’s even a tree on the dance floor, for crying out loud! And if you’re feeling a bit tuckered out from all that dancing, there’s a chill bed upstairs in the lounge area. Fancy that!
But here’s where things get a bit⦠interesting. The reviews for this place are more mixed than a bag of trail mix. Some folks rave about the eclectic crowd, the unique atmosphere, and the killer music. Others, well, they’ve got some choice words about the security staff that would make a sailor blush.
Alright, let’s break down what makes Lovelee tick, shall we?
First up, we’ve got the decor. Now, Iâm no interior designer, but from what I’ve heard, this place is like stepping into a fever dream. One reviewer described it as having a âvery âMonkiâ feel mixed w/ some Miami Vice neon detailsâ. Iâm not entirely sure what that means, but it sounds⦠interesting?
The music is another big draw. Apparently, they’ve got a bit of everything here. On Sundays, they host something called âWicked Jazz Soundsâ, which sounds like a real hoot. DJs jamming with live musicians, taking you on a musical journey through funk, disco, house, soul, hip-hop â you name it, they’ve probably got it.
Now, let’s talk about the crowd. From what I’ve gathered, it’s a pretty diverse bunch. You’ve got your uniquely dressed folks, your eccentric dancers, and apparently, everyone’s âwell connected to each otherâ. Sounds like a real kumbaya situation, doesnât it?
Oh, and did I mention the tree on the dance floor? Because there’s a tree on the dance floor. Just in case you forgot.
But here’s where things get a bit⦠dicey. The security staff at Lovelee has quite the reputation. And not necessarily a good one. There are more than a few stories floating around about overzealous bouncers and less-than-friendly door staff. It’s like they’re auditioning for a remake of âRoadhouseâ or something.
On the plus side, they do have free and clean toilets. And in Amsterdam, my friends, that’s nothing to sneeze at. They’ve also got lockers, which is handy if you donât want to be lugging your coat around all night while you’re trying to bust a move.
Now, when’s the best time to hit up Lovelee? Well, that depends on what you’re after, doesnât it?
If you’re into that Wicked Jazz Sounds vibe I mentioned earlier, then Sunday nights are your jam. Literally. From what I’ve heard, it’s a real treat for music lovers. You’ve got your DJs, your live musicians, and a crowd that’s ready to groove. Just be prepared for some⦠shall we say, enthusiastic dancing.
For the rest of the week, it seems like your standard nightclub hours apply. Late nights and early mornings are the name of the game here. But here’s a pro tip for ya: if you’re planning on going, maybe consider getting there early. Why, you ask? Well, remember those security stories I mentioned? Yeah, it seems like the later it gets, the more⦠selective they become at the door.
Oh, and here’s another tidbit for you: they apparently have themed nights from time to time. Now, I donât know what these themes are exactly â could be anything from âDisco Infernoâ to âDress Like Your Favorite Dutch Painterâ. But hey, if you’re into that sort of thing, keep an eye out!
One more thing to consider: Amsterdam’s weather. Now, I know you’re probably thinking, âWhat’s the weather got to do with a nightclub? â Well, let me tell you, my friend. There’s nothing quite like queuing up in the rain, only to be told by a bouncer that your shoes are too wet for entry. Iâm not saying it’s happened at Lovelee, but in Amsterdam? Anything’s possible.
Alright, let’s say you’ve decided to brave the wild world of Lovelee. How do you actually get there? Well, buckle up, buttercup, because I’m about to give you the lowdown.
First things first: Lovelee is located in the Leidseplein area. If you’re not familiar with Amsterdam, Leidseplein is basically party central. It’s like the city decided to take all its bars, clubs, and theaters and cram them into one square. Fun times, right?
If you’re coming from elsewhere in the city, you’ve got a few options. Public transport in Amsterdam is pretty darn good, if I do say so myself. You’ve got trams, buses, and even night buses if you’re planning on making a real night of it.
For the tram, you’re looking at lines 1, 2, 5, 7, or 19. Just hop on one of those bad boys and get off at the Leidseplein stop. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy.
If you’re more of a bus person, lines 347, 357, or 397 will get you there. Again, Leidseplein is your stop.
Now, if you’re feeling fancy (or just really hate public transport), you could always grab a taxi or an Uber. Just be prepared to shell out a few more euros for the privilege.
For the cyclists among you (and let’s face it, if you’re in Amsterdam, there’s a good chance you’ve rented a bike), Leidseplein is pretty easy to find. Just follow the sound of music and the smell of, uh. .. “herbal remedies”.
Oh, and here’s a little insider tip for ya: if you’re planning on driving, don’t. Seriously. Parking in Amsterdam is a nightmare at the best of times, and Leidseplein? Forget about it. You’d have better luck finding a unicorn than a parking spot.
Once you’re in Leidseplein, finding Lovelee shouldn’t be too hard. Just look for the place with the queue of people dressed like they’re auditioning for a Lady Gaga video. Or, you know, you could just use Google Maps. Whatever floats your boat.
