Where City Hotel Amsterdam is
The hotel is on Prins Hendrikkade, the waterfront road that runs past Amsterdam Centraal Station. It sits east of the station, facing the Oosterdok waterfront towards the NEMO science museum, on the edge of the Nieuwmarkt area. Nieuwmarkt and the Red Light District are about 400–500 m away, and Dam Square is roughly 900 m away.
The hotel says it is five minutes’ walk from Centraal Station, and booking sites put the distance at roughly 500 m. With luggage, some guests find it closer to 10 minutes. Tram and bus stops on Prins Hendrikkade are right outside. Nieuwmarkt metro station is about a six-minute walk.
The Michiel de Ruyter connection
The hotel describes its building as the former home of Michiel de Ruyter (1607–1676), the celebrated Dutch admiral. According to Dutch heritage records, de Ruyter moved into a house on this stretch of waterfront, now Prins Hendrikkade 131, in 1655. He lived there until his death. That house dates from 1651 and is a national monument (rijksmonument). You can recognise it by the portrait stone of the admiral above the door, which was added in 1829.
