I stumbled upon Kid-Oh on my last trip to Amsterdam, and it felt like stepping into a kaleidoscope of creativity. Walk through the door and you’re met with bright colors, sounds, and plenty of childlike wonder. It’s the sort of place that makes you wish you could shrink back down to kid-size and spend the whole day exploring.
Now, you might be thinking, “But I’m on vacation! Why would I want to hang out at a kids’ center?” Fair question. Kid-Oh isn’t just another playplace. It’s an inspiration hub that can bring back your own sense of curiosity, and maybe teach you a thing or two. If you’re traveling with little ones, it’s a real find.
The center offers all sorts of activities to keep kids entertained for hours: art workshops, science experiments, music classes, you name it. And the best part? The activities are educational without feeling like a boring old classroom. Sneaky learning at its finest!
Here’s the real kicker: Kid-Oh also runs events and workshops for adults. While the little ones try painting or robotics, you can join a workshop on Dutch culture or have a go at local crafts. It’s a win-win, if you ask me.

So, what makes Kid-Oh stand out? The workshops are a good place to start. There’s a huge variety, from breakdancing and self-defense to capoeira. They even offer financial support through the Youth Fund Sport & Culture if you need a hand with the costs. Pretty great, right?

You might not be planning to spend the whole summer in Amsterdam, but if you’re here for a week or two, they’re a lovely way for kids to get a more immersive experience. They’ll meet local children, pick up new skills, and head home with stories their classmates will want to hear.
Kid-Oh also has an inspirational toy shop that might tempt you to buy half the store. You’ll find unique, educational toys you don’t usually see in a big-box shop. It’s a nice spot to pick up a souvenir that’ll keep the learning going after your trip.
And then there are the themed events and birthday parties: pirates, magic, unicorns, the lot. You don’t need to be celebrating a birthday to have fun. I may or may not have crashed a pirate-themed party during my visit (don’t tell anyone), and it was the highlight of my trip.
There’s a cafe, too. Parents can sit down with a coffee while keeping an eye on the little ones in the free play area. Honestly, it’s a smart setup.

Best Time to Visit
When’s the best time to visit Kid-Oh? Really, anytime. But if you want a few local tips, here you go.
Weekday mornings are your best bet if you’d rather avoid crowds. It tends to be quieter, so there’s more chance of one-on-one attention from staff and shorter waits for popular activities. You’ll also get first pick of the good stuff in the toy shop.
On the other hand, weekends give you the full Kid-Oh experience. Kids bounce from one activity to the next while parents chat over coffee. It can be a bit chaotic, but in a fun way.
Summer’s a particularly good time to visit, especially if you’re interested in the camps. Amsterdam weather is usually pretty nice, by Dutch standards anyway, and the center often organizes outdoor activities when the sun’s out.
Here’s a little secret: October is a great month to check out Kid-Oh, too. The center runs a special October camp that’s always a hit, and Amsterdam looks lovely in autumn. Take a walk through Vondelpark among the golden leaves, then head to Kid-Oh for an afternoon of fun.
Winter has its own charm. The center puts on holiday-themed events and workshops, and it’s a cozy place to escape the chilly weather. Settle in with some hot cocoa while the kids learn about Dutch Christmas traditions.
In spring, you’ll find Easter events and workshops about nature and new beginnings. It’s a nice time to pair a visit to Kid-Oh with some tulip viewing. After all, you can’t come to the Netherlands without seeing a few tulips.
How to Get There
Getting to Kid-Oh is easy. It’s at Eerste Sweelinckstraat 21H, 1073CL, in De Pijp. If you’re staying in the city center, you’ve got a few ways to get there.
My favorite is to rent a bike. It’s the most Dutch way to get around, and you’ll see plenty of the city on the way. You’ll feel like a local zipping through the streets, just watch out: the bike lanes can be intense!
If you’d rather not cycle (or you’ve had one too many stroopwafels and don’t trust your balance), public transport is a good option.
The tram’s easy to use and gets you close to Kid-Oh. Take tram 3 or 12 and get off at the Tweede van der Helststraat stop. From there, it’s a short walk.
The metro works well, too. Take the North/South line, the blue one, to De Pijp station. It’s about a 10-minute walk from there, and a pleasant one at that. You’ll pass cafes and shops, so there’s time for a little exploring before Kid-Oh.
Coming from further afield, say Schiphol Airport? Take the train to Amsterdam Zuid station, then hop on the metro. It’s a bit of a journey, but half the fun is getting there, right?
If you’d rather skip public transport, you can always grab a taxi or an Uber. It’ll cost a bit more, but the convenience can be worth it, especially with kids who are already bouncing off the walls with excitement.
One last tip: if you’re using Google Maps, make sure you enter the full address, including the ‘H’ at the end. Otherwise, you might end up at the wrong place, and nobody wants that sort of detour when there’s fun to be had at Kid-Oh!
