Euro Pizza is a sourdough pizza and natural-wine restaurant at Gedempt Hamerkanaal 79 in the Hamerkwartier, the former industrial strip in eastern Amsterdam-Noord. The team behind Restaurant Europa next door runs it, with chef Rein Op ‘t Root in charge of both kitchens. Gault&Millau scores it 13.5/20 and gave it a Great Value Award in 2025. Go for a short, changing pizza list and seasonal small plates in a converted garage. Skip it if you want a classic margherita-and-pepperoni pizzeria.
Why visit Euro Pizza
Euro Pizza started in 2020. When COVID closed Restaurant Europa, then based in the HEM Museum in Zaandam, the team began making frozen pizzas instead. The project outgrew the lockdown and became a sit-down “pizza-driven wine bar” in a shed opposite a petrol station. It is still one of the harder tables to get in Noord. The setting looks unpromising on a map, and that is part of its reputation: people cross the IJ for the food, not the view.
What’s on the menu
The pizzas are sourdough, baked in a wood-fired oven that you can see from the dining room. The flour is milled at Korenmolen de Zandhaas in Santpoort, the mozzarella is Dutch, and the vegetables come from growers within about 20 kilometres of Amsterdam. The pizza list is short and changes with the seasons, so expect unusual combinations rather than the usual classics.
Past pizzas include a bolognese with ragù royale, green chili and Comté; a spring pie with white beans, soubise and wild garlic; the Pizza Passard with shallots, walnuts, lemon, parsley and anchovies; and a fennel pie with fermented potato and burrata. The small plates are just as inventive. Past examples include red mullet on toast, crab claws with nam prik and a French Dip made on house sourdough. The drinks list centres on natural wine, with a few locally brewed beers.

Dietary notes
The menu has often leaned vegetarian. At one point I amsterdam described a three-pizza menu that was entirely vegetarian. Recent menus have also included meat and fish, so what you’ll find depends on the week. We could not find any published promise of gluten-free or vegan pizzas. If you have an allergy or a strict diet, mention it when you book.
Eating at home
Euro Pizza still makes the frozen pizzas it started with. You can buy them at shops including Stach and Thull’s, or order them for delivery across the Netherlands through Crisp.
Opening hours and booking
Euro Pizza serves dinner on weekdays and opens from early afternoon at weekends. Published hours don’t agree, though. Gault&Millau lists dinner Monday to Friday and all-day service at weekends, while other 2026 guides show the restaurant closed on Monday or Tuesday. Check europizza.rest or call before you go, especially early in the week.

How to get there
Euro Pizza is in eastern Noord, so the Buiksloterweg ferry to the Eye Filmmuseum is not the closest crossing. From Centraal Station, take the eastern ferry or the metro. See our Amsterdam transportation guide for current ferry routes.
- Ferry: take the free F2 from behind Centraal to IJplein (about 5 minutes; every 7–10 minutes, roughly 06:00 to midnight), then walk about 15 minutes via Meeuwenlaan to Gedempt Hamerkanaal.
- Metro: take line 52 one stop from Centraal to Noorderpark, then walk about 10 minutes along Johan van Hasseltweg, Meeuwenlaan and Hamerstraat.
- Bike: bikes ride the ferry for free, and IJplein is about a 5-minute cycle from the restaurant.
- From the Eastern Docklands: take the F7 Oostveer from Azartplein to Zamenhofstraat, which lands on the Hamerkwartier side.
- Bus: line 38 stops at Hamerstraat, a short walk away.
