Discover hidden gems and local experiences
Hortus Botanicus on Plantage Middenlaan, founded in 1638, is one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world — established as the city's medicinal-herb garden during the height of the Dutch East India Company's botanical expeditions, it still holds rare specimens collected during those voyages. Its iconic 1912 Palmenhuis, three-climate greenhouse and outdoor beds make it one of central Amsterdam's quieter and more rewarding stops. The Amsterdamse Bos south of the city is functionally a botanical reserve as well as a park. This archive collects the formal botanical gardens and arboretum-style green spaces across Amsterdam and just outside it. Each listing notes opening hours, ticketing, and which season the garden is at its peak.
